In the Moment saw Kaskade's first top 10 single with "Steppin' Out" reaching No. 5 on Billboard Magazine's Hot Dance Club Play chart and No. 6 on Dance Radio Airplay. Kaskade released his first single "What I Say" on the label in 2001. Concentrating on his DJing skills, Kaskade started to experiment and develop his own sound. Garnering critical acclaim, spawning several singles, and receiving a prestigious Dance Star nomination for Best New Artist, the release put Kaskade squarely on the dance music world's radar. He kicked off the deal with a full-length house debut, It's You It's Me. Īfter mixing the third volume in the Sounds of Om series, Ryan was offered a three-album deal for Kaskade. He did not take his name from the Cascade Range in the Pacific Northwest as fans sometimes cite. He took his stage name from a nature book when he saw a picture of a waterfall and a co-worker agreed "cascade" was a good choice, but he then changed the spelling. Soon after, Raddon created his alter ego, Kaskade, which his wife worried would remind people of the dish detergent. While at OM records he continued DJing and producing music. To Raddon's benefit, San Francisco was an emerging site of a new deep house movement. In May 2000, Raddon moved to San Francisco with his wife where he got a job working as an A&R assistant to John Elkins at Om Records, a house and electronic label. He used this additional income to purchase studio essentials. In 1995, Raddon began DJing his first monthly Monday night party at a basement venue called Club Manhattan. ![]() Musical career 1995–2000: Early beginnings While attending school, Kaskade and his close friend Jodi Call ran a record store in Salt Lake City called Mechanized. Following his mission, in 1992, he moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah, eventually graduating with a degree in communications. At age 19, Raddon served a two-year full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan. He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah from 1989 to 1990, working on his DJ skills in his dorm room. His brother, Rich Raddon, became an entrepreneur and film producer. As a teenager, he would shop for music at Gramaphone Records on Clark Street in Chicago. Early life īorn in Chicago, Kaskade grew up in nearby Northbrook and attended Glenbrook North High School. DJ Mag named Kaskade fifty-first on its 2009 list of Top 100 DJs. DJ Times voted Kaskade "America's Best DJ" in 20. ![]() Despite one or two slightly less exciting tracks, this is an excellent overview of the work one of dance music's most exciting talents.Ryan Gary Raddon (born February 25, 1971), better known by his stage name Kaskade, is an American DJ, record producer and remixer. The real treat is Kaskade's caressingly beautiful arrangement of the classic Christmas hymn "Still, Still, Still," previously available only on the Home for the Holidays collection. Fans will already be familiar with such popular fare as the soulful and joyous "Gonna Make It," the subtly jungle-flavored "Peace on Earth," and the gorgeous "It's You, It's Me," but non-completists may be hearing the rhythmically tricky "This Rhythm" and the surprisingly dubbed-up funk-reggae of "My Name" for the first time. Here and Now, a generously packed two-disc set, collects all of his single releases along with B-sides and other rarities not previously released on a Kaskade album, and it doesn't disappoint. He also seems to be a connoisseur of good singing voices, intelligent lyrics, and uplifting melodic hooks as much as he is a lover of thumping foursquare beats, which means that his albums tend to be highly listenable as pop music, not just as utilitarian dancefloor fodder. Ryan Raddon (aka Kaskade) is a bright and shining exception to that rule, a master of club conventions who never seems to allow himself to coast or phone it in. For most house artists, emotional engagement isn't really the point the involvement they're trying to inspire is mainly physical, and that often leads to a certain predictability in the music. ![]()
